Website tradition says this is the page where the organization footing the bill for the site tells you a little about themselves. Okay, I'm not really an organization these days, but I am footing the bill, so....
Here's
a
short version of my resume spun with an emphasis on writing and design.
I've done a lot of other things during my professional career, but writing
and design almost always becomes an output of these engagements, so...
Education Background. Have an MBA from Pepperdine
U, a BA in Psychology
from San Jose State U. Also graduated from high school.
Professional Backround. Co-founded a business growth consultancy
specializing in businesses with chain operations. Co-founded, co-built and
co-sold
a
consulting planning, marketing and design
firm.
Was
a
director
of a boutique investment bank. Was
marketing VP for an entertainment technology company. Was Director of Communications
(and
earlier a planner) for the architecture and planning firm) that designed the
Transamerica Pyramid and planned entire new cities.
That was where I took up writing-to-explain and writing-to-persuade. Even earlier,
ran
a
full-service
commercial
printer,
which
was
when and where
I
discovered — and fell
in
love with
— graphic design.
Writing Experience. Haven't
written a screenplay yet...but have written just about everything else. If
there's one thing I've
learned about writing it's this: any kind of worth-its-salt writing is crafted
from thinking,
strategy,
ideas,
salesmanship and the reader's (or listener's or viewer's) reality. It's not
just stringing
words
together.
Stringing
words
together
is called talking or typing. I've been getting paid to do the other kind of
writing
for three decades. Click here for some actual
writing samples.
Design Experience. Ah,
design. Graphic design, mostly. Three decades of it. But if we were to use
advertising hierarchical
jargon,
I'm
actually a creative director and art director as well as
a
graphic
designer.
What
that
means
for
you is that I'm a strategy-to-concept-to-finished-product guy, with a lot of
help from a troop of hardware and software "associates".
And
as
you already know, I handle the copywriter chores too.
Does
wearing all these hats
make sense?
It's sure more cost-effective and faster. And think of all the team meetings
you won't get billed for. Check out the Examples pages for
Real Stuff.

Not long ago somebody pinned the photo down below on the Today Cafe picture board. Attached to it was a yellow sticky note that said: "Name this man and win an all expenses paid weekend at the Licketyville Casino."
It was some kind of gag, of course. First, there is no Licketyville Casino. Second, the guy already has a name and everybody in town knows it. He's the Honorary Mayor, after all. Appointed by Madge Licket herself.
The locals all got a chuckle out of it, but the tourists took it seriously. After two dozen tourists interrupted my counter-wiping to inquire where they could find the casino, I removed the picture and the note.
From this little experiment I concluded that if there was a tribe nearby, there would soon be a casino nearby. Revenge of the Red Man they're calling this phenomenon, I hear.~ ~ The Proprietor
